Last Year's Ball was a huge success, raising in excess of £5,600 for the Uttlesford Branch of the Alzheimer's Society.
Plans for this year's Masquerade Ball are well underway. The event is to be held at Stansted Manor Hotel on the 14th of November 2009. Tickets will shortly be available for purchase, and due to the success of last year's event they are likely to sell extremely quickly! Why a Masquerade Ball? Why for the Alzheimer's Society?
My decision to run a fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Society came about following the diagnosis of the disease within my family. The Uttlesford Branch gave us such fantastic support and advice that I wanted to repay them for the kindness and help they have provided.
I chose Masquerade as the theme for the Ball as I believe that there are some similarities between the characteristics of someone wearing a mask to the disease itself... Yes, it may sound strange, BUT... Wearing a mask allows you to "mask your identity and reveal the hidden personality", you may grow in confidence or take on a completely different persona... The disease, has a similar effect... the sufferer may still look like the same person, and may even sound and act like the same person, but eventually the personality is replaced or even stripped of it's original form. The fine line between reality and the dream world are removed... to the suffer they are one and the same. To the Masked they are easily differentiated.
